Vancouver Signs l Vehicle Wrap Removal Tips

One of the more common questions we get asked about vehicle wraps is what happens when we take them off?   There is no one catchall answer but here are a few things to consider:

OEM Paint (Manufacturer's original paint) - Today's top quality vehicle wrap materials such as 3M's 180c and Avery's 1080 are designed to be easily removed. Less expensive materials have less sophisticated adhesives and will likely be more difficult to take off.  If your paint is original you shouldn't have any concerns.

Non OEM Paint -- If your vhicle has been repainted, be prepared for the paint to come off when you have your wrap removed.  A repainted vehicle does not have the same bond with the vehicle's body as OEM paint and it is not unusual for this paint to come off with the vinyl during the removal process.

We're not saying it will come off, just that we can't guarantee it won't.

Painted plastic - Paints do not adhere as well to plastics as to the metal areas of your vehicle.  Areas such as bumpers are at greater risk of paint coming off than metal areas.

Paint Chips and Scratches - These areas as well as rust bubbles are at increased risk of damage when a vehicle wrap is removed.  If the paint is not well attached before the wrap goes on you are virtually guaranteed that it will come off when the wrap is removed.

Luckily for most people putting wraps on their vehicles, they will experience few problems when taking their wraps off.  Better to be aware of potential problems before you wrap that be surprised 5 years down the road.
